CALYPSO de SIGALDI

Surrounded by the world of art and fashion from childhood, Calypso de Sigaldi has forged her own path through her passion for photography.
She often says that for this particular little girl,  the fairy tales which built her fantasy land were not those by Grimm or Perrault but by photographers as Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin, in magazines like Vogue.

At the teenage she chose to learn from her masters by posing in front of their lenses. During her career as a model, she came to understand that very intimate relationship that a model has with the camera, the power of a good lighting but above all she’s got the chance to learn “the magic of the image” from talented photographers in privileged conditions.

As she became increasingly captivated by the allure of photography, she decided to set up her own photographers’ agency with her as producer. It was here that she tackled the technical side of image creation and was soon coming up with her own concepts.

Naturally she began to put her own name to the artistic direction of series which she still entrusted other photographers. Finally the moment came for her to get behind the camera and to take her first shots. She quickly realized the limits of fashion photography and she decided to express herself, as well, through fine art photography which gives her the freedom to assert her view of the world, modern society and its morals.

Her works speak of seduction and the position of women in society, who behind the artifices and attitudes continue to reinvent the art of gentle flirtation and all the charms which add spice to the male/female relationship.

Calypso de Sigaldi doesn't define herself as a fashion photographer but as an "image maker" who is trying to catch the emotions.

She watches the society of today and likes to deliver her own vision of it though short series she shoots with humor, fantasy and a real sense of the glamour.
